Cultural Edutainment
Before the advent of the printing technology and the later developments of computers, the transmission and preservation of the knowledge was done using the palm leaf - the palm leaf is the leaf of a coniferous tree which was dried and on it the writing was done using a sharp iron needle. The life of such a document is about two hundred years if carefully preserved. In India there are about seven Lakh palm leaf manuscript documents which are in critical condition of extinction; these are available in various government libraries, research institutions, private collections and religious institutions all over the world and at the indological libraries. Such documents are awaiting the care of preservation.

In pursuance of this extinction, a need to have for the first time - the classic work of philosophy – the Bhagavad Gita in the multi-media CD-ROM interactive for the benefit of the computer and technical professionals was felt. The efforts have borne fruit in the form of this product on CD-ROM and Broadband Internet.
The need was to communicate the message of Gita in a form which is different from - the book, the video and audio cassettes, the film or the lectures. The power of the computer for interactive learning was intended to be exploited and with all that the relevance of Gita to the modern world in this media was to be told. This challenge has been met by providing the contents and the message of Gita in different levels for children, family and the scholars. This is the first version, the general overall view is presented. In the later versions, we have the plans to bring out Gita with specialised information's and presentations in multiple languages and scripts.
This effort is one of the ways of supplementing the missing part of the cultural, religious and spiritual heritage for the technocrats and the children of our hi tech society. This helps us to continue the stream of knowledge beyond our times for the next generation. This is a process of enriching the human life with cultural values.
This Indian Classic which has been modified to suit the modern technology of CD-ROM in providing a wide variety of interactive features. It not only deals with questions at a basic level but simultaneously addresses an audience looking for higher levels of learning. It seeks to promote the cause of Sanskrit, Indian Culture and heritage for a global audience and particularly in imparting the values of an age old culture which has been overtaken by hybridisation and pop culture.
